New moon Trailer textual analysis  MS V HW
What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?
The techniques that the new moon trailer uses, consists of a very diverse range of techniques which keeps audiences coming back for more. The first thing i noticed was that it uses quick paced shots to create a fast notion of action, catching the reader’s attention and influencing their decision to invest in a ticket to view the film. Another technique that i picked up on was that the trailer uses a lot of fade out shots which creates suspense throughout the trailer and adding to that was a characters voice in the background. Music is another factor that contributed to the success of the trailer as it set the pace of the trailer and also aids the hype surrounding the film because it fits with the quick sharp action scenes.

How is gender represented in this trailer
Bella who is one of the protagonists is represented normally as to how any ordinary girl would. However we also see what a strong character she really is as she keeps her whole love for a vampire a secret from her father, who is a police man who is on the haunt to find the killers in town, when actually Bella knows is not a danger, as she knows its people from her best friend, Jacobs side who are causing it, and will therefore not do any harm to her because she has Edward to protect her, and Jacob behind that as well.
The two protagonist involved in this film, Edward and Bella. Edward is presented as a character that is looking after his love, Bella. He seems to be quite protective of her, which, as a male he is actually performing his role and duty as a gentleman properly.
What target audience would be attracted to this film?
The target audiences which are most likely to view this film will range from ages 12+ teenage girls, however some males might also be attracted to this film due to the adventure involved within the narrative. The trailer consists of romance and adventure which will appeal to both sexes. Many girls will be tempted to view this film mainly because of the two good looking male characters which feature in the film, Jacob and Edward.
What Hollywood values can you identify in this trailer?
The Hollywood values present in this trailer maybe idol worship and vanity, mainly due to the media paying so much attention to the protagonists and their personal attributes. Also the audiences who indulge in watching their films in an excessive way.

case study: research on news platforms

News is a piece of information institutions which provide to the world. The need for this is to make the people aware of what’s happening around them and the environment they live in. This process involves a lot of the media and promotion. News is broadcasted on a number of different platforms such as TV, radio, internet and newspaper.
Internet: The online world is very popular among younger generations because of the ease of access and the general excitement of being on a website. For instance news could be presented online via web advertisements on the side or WebPages designed to catch the attention of viewers by the stories they broadcast.
Radio: the radio is most appealing to the older generation because it has been around for a long time and people who tend to use the radio to update themselves feel more comfortable listening to the news rather than hearing it on the internet or television.
Newspaper: newspapers are also a popular choice for older people because they have been around for so long and have turned into the normal way of finding out about what is going on around the world. Also it’s much easier to update yourself by reading the newspaper because its so quick for instance the newspapers which get passed around on public transport.
Television: The use of televised programs in people’s homes has exploded in the recent years and is seen as the most contemporary way of updating yourself with new. News is reported on channels for instance BBC news 24 is a 24 hour channel which provides news to people all day around.  Also after popular soaps and films there are various news corporations which provide quick 60 second updates for example on bbc three after watching a series of programs there is a short and insightful update into the world around us.

Codes and conventions of advertising
The first thing I noticed in this advert was the women being used as objects. They all are young attractive women and this  would not only attract female customers but also catch the attention of men too.
Because of the influential purposes on women the advertisement is also directed at men, sending the message that if you buy these hair straighteners your partner will turn into a model .Also the narrator’s voice speaks more like as if they were from Shakespearean times rather than 2010 for instance "thou" which is in the 10 commandments. From this I can gather that they are making references to Christianity by mentioning the 10 commandments. Again they take advantage of the topic and use religion as an influential asset to gain popularity. The hairs on the models are purposely   made to be very sleek and sexy so that the female audience get an insight into the wonders this hair straightner can do. Although we as the audience are not told if the hair used in the advertisement is in fact real or artificial, and so we cannot make a real judgment, but what we can say is it is appealing to women.
Representation
In the advertisement women are projected to be the dominant figures rather than men. This would be appealing to women who are single and maybe have interest in being promiscuous and being ‘gold diggers’  as it promotes the alternative idea of women being in control rather than the stereotypical male.
The men here are portrayed as objects rather than figureheads, for instance in the advert a women uses the GHD hair straightners to take advantage of a man who belongs to her best friend. I think that the producers of this advertisement have purposely juxtaposed the idea of men being in control rather than women because it causes controversy and in is therefore more popular.
Media institution
The advert is very offensive to devoted Catholics or Catholics in general. In terms of Christianity, the advert caused a lot of controversy and was banned due to blasphemy and mocking in many people’s perspectives. Mainly because of the continued use of ‘thou shalt not’ this descends from the 10 commandments.
This incident would have given a lot of people an insight into the channel’s values and in turn making assumptions that it was not too reliable because they chose to broadcast such an advertisement.
Audience
On the basis of this ad it would be directed at women in general more than men. Women who are in a higher social class than most, who want to look good and appealing. This maybe women who are more independent and need something that gets the job done quickly but does not substitute time for quality.
